Most of us have had opportunities to make our own decisions and end up making the wrong decision, some have made decisions, and the consequences were quite unfavorable.
Some of us have desired to hear from God to make certain decisions, especially in things that we fear for their consequences. In this article, I’ll enlighten you on how to hear God’s voice when making a decision.

Who Is God?

To give a generalized definition of God, God is a supernatural being who cares for all and whose ways cannot be fully comprehended.
Beyond this, our understanding of God is limited based on our experience with God; that is why if you ask people about God, there will tell you about God based on their experience with God. So the question here should be, who is God to you?
I have seen God move in different dimensions in my little walk with God, but I will be based on three. I have come to know God as My Father, best friend, and daddy.
Based on the level you have walked with God, who is God to you? Do not limit yourself to what you have known; strive to understand more.

What It Means To Hear God’s Voice

You can’t hear God’s voice just like that. It takes processes.
Hearing God’s voice means the ability to recognize God’s message when He speaks to us.
There must have been a previous or ongoing conversation between you and Him to hear from God. We communicate with God through prayer and in our daily activities by being aware of the presence of the Holy Spirit in us. I am sure you are confused already, like, the Holy Spirit in you; Yeah, the Holy Spirit dwells in us as believers and Christians.

Concept Of Trinity

Trinity means three; Holy Trinity; three persons in one God. We have God as The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit.
God is our father; He is the creator of everything on earth and the Universe. God plays the role of our earthly father as our Protector, Provider, and Guidance. He cares for us and, most importantly, loves us.
With the desire to have a relationship with a man after the fall of man and to grant unto man redemption and salvation, He sent his only begotten and beloved Son- Jesus Christ, in His image and likeness.
Through the birth, death, resurrection, and glorious resurrection of Jesus Christ, we are redeemed and saved from our sins and can always come to God for help through him.
To Jesus Christ, before His death and before His Ascension, promised us a Comforter: The Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the third person in Trinity. The Holy Spirit is the indwelling Spirit in the life of every believer. It is how we have intimacy with God.
As no one comes to God except through Jesus Christ, when we pray, we pray in the Name of Jesus Christ.
However, our intimacy with God is dependent on the Holy Spirit. That is the only way to feel God’s love, joy, peace, patience, tolerance, gentleness, meekness, endurance, longsuffering, kindness, and comfort.

How To Hear God’s Voice When Making A Decision

We can’t hear God’s voice without having a relationship with God. There’s more to God than we already know; we can know God more only if we have a strong relationship with Him. There is a need to build our relationship with God. To have a relationship with God, we need to;

1) Accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Personal Saviour.
2) Be consistent in prayer and study God’s Word – The Holy Bible.
3) Attend Christian Fellowship.
4) Walk by the Fruit of the Spirit as stated.
5) Meditate on the word of God.
6) Practice the word of God.
Some means through which God communicates with us may include;

A.) Vision and Dreams.

B.) God speaks to us through His Word. Your appetite for God’s word must be on the high side. God’s word must order your steps, and God sounds like His Words. The Bible is God’s love language. To hear God through His Word, you need to be a Student of the Word. Through His Word, we can listen to God concerning that particular decision.

C.) Prophets/Pastors- Prophets and Pastors only give instructions based on what God has said to you and confirm what God has said or told you already, but we are not to seek their advice and counsel first listen to what God has to say.

D.) Inward Witness- This is through the Spirit. Yeah, we are Spirits; we have our body, soul, and Spirit; we are three persons in one form. The inward witness is a knowing from the inside. It comes as a check; when something is wrong, it’s a NO, and a green light for a go ahead, it’s a YES.

E.) The Inward Voice- It is the still, small voice. It is your conscience. The Holy Spirit is more authoritative. The Holy Spirit speaks to our Spirit and our conscience; he can either correct us or help us choose a better plan for our lives. Listen to your conscience whenever you’re about to make decisions. Our conscience can be called the still small voice.

F.) By developing your Spirit, you can’t hear God’s voice without having developed your Spirit. How do you develop your Spirit to hear God’s voice;

a) By praying in the Spirit.
b) Instantly developing the voice of the Spirit.
c) Meditation of the Word of God.
d) Practicing the Word of God.
e) Studying the word of God.
f) Reading Christian books based on the Holy Spirit, etc.

In summary to “how to hear god’s voice when making a decision“, God does not appear physically to talk to us, except in rare cases. But he often speaks to our minds through the Holy Spirit. When we are calm, quiet, and working according to his will, we will surely recognize his voice when speaking to us. When we pray and study the scriptures, we can gain more revelations in understanding his words and how best to practice them in our lives.
